Carey and Jen – The Purple Painted Lady House Wedding Photography, Palmyra NY

From the second that you encounter Carey and Jen, it’s obvious how special they are. We met over Skype for the first time, and even over a grainy screen, their love was a palpable thing. They are the epitome of a complimentary couple and exist in every emotion that crosses their minds. From their engagement session last summer, to their wedding day it has been nothing but a joy to photograph their journey thus far.

We started the morning at the Beale House for their hair and makeup. Through Secret Service level coordination by their wedding party, Carey, and Jen prepared for their wedding day on separate floors without ever encountering each other.

After Jessica Elle and Deanna helped them look like HD versions of themselves, we made our way over to the Purple Painted Lady house for their spectacular wedding. Finally, it was the moment that Carey and Jen had been waiting for – the moment they saw each other on their wedding day.

Amid tears by everyone present (myself included, thank god my camera doesn’t record audio) Carey and Jen took one of the most special walks in their lives thus far. As everything else was with their wedding, their ceremony was the perfect balance of sentimental and funny, with just the right amount of quirky. There were heartfelt readings by the elders of both of their families and sweet vows that did not leave a dry eye in the audience. They chose the order of their vows via a rock, paper, scissors match. Their furry ball of mush and excitement Tully had the privilege of delivering their rings, and there ending involving power tools (Jen was far more secure in her knowledge of a drill than in Careys, but there were no injuries).

Following an epic kiss under an ancient tree, and celebratory hugs from loved ones we made our way around the property for portraits. We laughed, we danced, and Carey and Jen enjoyed those first moments by themselves after becoming wives.

If their ceremony was any indication of how unique their wedding day was, the reception certainly gave it away. There were toasts given by their sisters that were filled with equal parts tears and belly-aching laughter. Instead of a traditional wedding dessert, their guests dined on pizza and McDonald’s fries (yes, those are cake and yes, they were delicious). Their tent was adorned in Jen’s exceptional art, and I have never seen a group of guests more thrilled to see two people get married. Carey surprised Jen by singing a Brandi Carlile song, which was greeted by free-flowing tears and beaming grins. They danced the night away among the people that they cherish the most.

After a very sweaty night of dancing, they ended the marvelous day with a jump in the pool. Amid hysterical laughter and joy, their wedding party joined them. There could not have been a more perfect way to end what was truly a celebration of the love between two magnificent women.
